Migration Support Officer

Job Introduction

Lincolnshire has a strong track record of supporting people who have come to live in the county through different national government humanitarian programmes or resettlement routes, for example Homes for Ukraine visa holders. The Migration Team support those arriving in our communities with all aspects of integration, working in partnership with many different individuals and organisations. We have one permanent Migration Support Officer position available to join our team.  If you are looking for a role that is equally as challenging as it is rewarding, then we would like to hear from you

About the role

Our Team currently work supporting individuals predominantly from Ukraine on the Homes For Ukraine and Ukraine Permission Extension schemes - but could expand to supporting people arriving through other routes as and when required. You will manage a caseload of people (and their host families, if they have them), some of whom will need more support than others to settle in Lincolnshire

This is a person-centred role where you will be committed to working closely as part of a team with internal and external colleagues to support individuals and enable them to have a positive experience of life in Lincolnshire.

Your days will be varied ensuring a stimulating and engaging work environment. A typical day will see you applying a mixture of routine processes and dealing with unexpected problems. – Complex situations might emerge without warning so you'll need to be reactive and think on your feet. Pragmatism, resilience and teamwork are key as you will juggle a number of scenarios, whilst applying national guidance, prioritising and escalating as appropriate. You'll need excellent attention to detail, strong communication skills and a commitment to finding innovative solutions to problems

As we are supporting all aspects of integration we need to work with many different organisations so this is also a great opportunity to build relationships and learn about the work of other teams within and outside LCC

Hybrid working is a feature of this role. The successful applicant will be required to attend the office alongside the rest of the team each Wednesday. On occasion additional days may be required.

Please note this role requires you to be mobile throughout an operational area and therefore a valid driving licence and use of a car is required.

About you

As a Migration Support Officer you will be confident in having difficult conversations often about complex issues. You need to be able to remain impartial, build trust, and utilise your strong communication skills, especially as you will be working with a diverse range of customers with potentially limited English language skills.

You will be
emotionally intelligent, empathetic and display professional curiosity, with the ability to consider the bigger picture and broader thinking when working in a world of ambiguity and a politically sensitive environment. It is important you are able to anticipate potential problems and take an early intervention approach where appropriate to mitigate risk.

You will have the ability to interpret evolving government guidance and contribute to creative, adaptive solutions. As a valued team member, your input and opinions are important to us and will be highly regarded. We encourage and support you to build knowledge and expertise across a broad range of topics.
