Registration Officer - Boston (covering Boston, Skegness, Spalding)

Job Introduction

Lincolnshire County Council is looking for a Registration Officer to join our team.

We have 1 role available in Boston:

  • Part Time (22.5 hours) , hours will be worked on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday, on a rota basis (these days are not flexible). 

This role is offered on a permanent basis.

Registration Officers deal with members of the public from diverse backgrounds, obtaining accurate information from them, often in emotional circumstances, and applying complex legal regulations. 

The role will involve registering births, deaths, marriages, and civil partnerships, and conducting ceremonies at various locations like registration offices, religious buildings, and approved premises.

Registration Officers interact with people from all walks of life, often at the best and worst times of their lives, so empathy and patience are key.

What you'll be doing

  • Registering births, still-births, deaths, marriages, and civil partnerships.
  • Attesting notices of marriage/civil partnerships
  • Conducting marriage and civil partnership ceremonies, citizenship ceremonies and other non-statutory ceremonies (e.g. renewal of vows, naming ceremonies).
  • Maintaining and securing stock items as per General Register Office requirements.
  • Providing a high standard of customer service to everyone you interact with.
  • Working with various partners, e.g. GRO, Home Office, Funeral Directors, Churches, Hospitals, and Hospices.
  • Supporting and participating in the training of registration staff.
  • Staying updated with changes in legislation, policies, and procedures.
  • Contributing to the improvement and development of the service and promoting registration services.

What we're looking for

  • NVQ Level 4 or equivalent, or 3+ years of relevant experience.
  • Great customer service skills with excellent communication.
  • Ability to deal tactfully and discreetly with members of the public from a wide range of backgrounds and cultures.
  • Skill in obtaining the correct information from people in emotional circumstances.
  • Understanding and applying complex legal regulations.
  • Clear and accurate writing skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Strong teamwork abilities.
  • Capability to work unsupervised and under pressure.

Working Arrangements

The role will be based in Lincoln but the post-holder will be required to travel to different offices and licensed venues when necessary.

The hours will be worked across the week between Monday and Saturday.
