Lincolnshire County Council is looking for an experienced and motivated individual to join our team as a Technical Supervisor at Lincolnshire Secure Unit. This twelve-bedded Local Authority Secure Children's Home provides the highest level of care and education for young people who are placed here via the courts for Youth Justice or Welfare reasons.
Due to recent changes in immigration law in the UK we are unable to offer skilled worker visa sponsorship for this role as it does not meet the requirements of RQF Level 6.
We're looking for someone who is practical, proactive and committed to maintaining a safe, secure and well-maintained environment for young people, staff and visitors.
About the Role
As Technical Supervisor, you will be responsible for the maintenance, security, safety and cleanliness of Lincolnshire Secure Unit. This is a hands-on role that plays an important part in ensuring the site remains safe, secure and fully operational.
You will support and deputise for the Site Manager, carrying out routine inspections, testing and maintenance of key safety and security systems including CCTV, alarms, fire safety equipment and personal attack systems. You will identify faults, undertake minor repairs and arrange specialist contractor support where required.
A key responsibility of the role is maintaining the security of the unit. This includes conducting perimeter checks, monitoring the condition of security systems, maintaining high-security locks and responding promptly to issues that could affect safety or security.
You will supervise site deliveries and contractors, ensuring all work is completed safely, securely and in line with site procedures and health and safety requirements. The post holder will formally supervise one Support Worker and one Handyperson and, in the absence of the Site Manager, oversee the day-to-day work of the wider site team.
Working closely with Local Authority property teams, contractors and inspectors, you will help maintain compliance with statutory requirements and contribute to the continuous improvement of maintenance and site management practices.
This role requires sound judgement, strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently. Duties can be physically demanding and include lifting, climbing, working at height, using maintenance equipment and working both indoors and outdoors in a secure environment.
About You
Essential requirements:
- Experience in building maintenance, facilities management or a similar technical environment.
- Strong practical skills and the ability to carry out hands-on maintenance and repair work.
- Experience supervising staff, contractors or service providers.
- Knowledge of health and safety legislation and safe working practices.
- Experience identifying faults and carrying out first-line repairs to building services or security systems.
- Good working knowledge of CCTV systems, high-security locks, electrical systems or electro-mechanical equipment.
- Strong organisational and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently, prioritise workloads and respond to changing demands.
- Good communication skills and the ability to build positive working relationships.
- A commitment to maintaining high standards of safety, security and professionalism.
