Waste Services Operative

Job Introduction

We are looking for a dedicated and self-motivated individual to provide support within our waste operations across Lincolnshire.  

This role involves working across the Waste Services Team we need a dynamic individual to work flexibly supporting our Operations Team and Performance and Improvement Team. 

Some key duties for the Operations team are working at various waste transfer stations mainly assisting with the weighing and loading of vehicles, stockpiling waste, maintaining site cleanliness and providing support at our Household Waste Recycling Centre at Tattershall. For the Performance and Improvement team, you will work on projects to improve the service and also engage with the public, providing information and assistance with waste and recycling programs.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Operating Equipment: Operate plant and equipment, such as JCB and Doosan loading shovels, to handle and move waste materials. Training will be provided if needed.
  • Weighing and Loading: Accurately weigh and load vehicles with waste materials, ensuring compliance with safety and operational standards.
  • Stockpiling: Manage the stockpiling of various waste streams, ensuring efficient and organised storage.
  • Site Maintenance: Maintain general housekeeping within the transfer station to ensure a clean and safe working environment.
  • Flexibility: Work across different locations within Lincolnshire, as needed.
  • Manual Handling: Perform manual handling tasks, such as loading vehicles for sampling and waste collection, and assist the public at Recycling Centres.
  • Compliance: Ensure adherence to all health and safety regulations and company policies.
  • Record Keeping: have sufficient IT skills to maintain accurate records of waste management activities and vehicle movements.
  • Public Engagement: Support the Performance and Improvement team by engaging with the public, providing information, and assisting them in complying with waste and recycling initiatives.

Requirements:

  • Experience in the waste industry or similar fields, or transferable skills.
  • Good physical fitness for manual handling tasks.
  • Full, clean driving licence and access to a vehicle (LCC vehicle may be provided).
  • Willingness to obtain a Technical Competence certificate in waste management if not already held.

Applicants must have a full clean driving license and access to a vehicle. A vehicle may also be provided by LCC.

Please be aware the role is required to manually handle material when loading vehicles for sampling and waste collection and also assisting the public at Recycling Centres so a certain level of physical fitness is required.  Overtime opportunities may be available.
