Job Introduction
The Democratic Team is responsible for managing the processes and systems which one would usually associate with a traditional committee services team but also includes Members’ IT and training, the ethical framework, Scrutiny and Civic & Lieutenancy Support.
The service requires an enthusiastic and motivated individual, committed to excellence in their work and with a passion for the political process. The successful candidate will work at the heart of the authority alongside elected Members, senior officials, senior officers, and members of the public.
The role will involve managing and servicing the Council’s Committees, Panels and Working Groups the Council, and external countywide bodies to which Lincolnshire County Council is the host authority for Democratic Support (including the GLCCA). The successful candidate will also have an involvement in supporting the civic role of the Council, the role of the Lieutenancy, elections and the scrutiny function.
The successful candidate will be a key contact in the Democratic Services Team so will need to be approachable and an excellent communicator, have the competence to solve problems and to work under minimal supervision.
They will already have knowledge of local authority decision-making (or the aptitude to learn) together with an ability to approach politically sensitive issues with diplomacy and tact. The ability to use modern IT systems, work to deadlines and produce concise and accurate summaries of sometimes complex issues is a must.
For external candidates, this role is offered as a fixed-term contract. For internal candidates, it will be available as an 18-month secondment opportunity based at Lincolnshire County Council Offices, Newland, Lincoln
