Senior Lawyer

Job Introduction

An exciting opportunity has arisen for two highly motivated commercial lawyers to join our Commercial and Information Team in Legal Services Lincolnshire (LSL).  

Due to the need to expand our shared legal service hosted by Lincolnshire County Council, we require two legal professionals to be engaged on a diverse range of high-profile work for Lincolnshire County Council, Lincolnshire District Councils and our recently created Greater Lincolnshire Combined County Authority.

About the role:

We require two experienced lawyers in local government commercial and procurement law to join our Commercial and Information Governance Team within LSL which provides advice to the County Council, Districts Councils and other external public bodies who engage our services. 

You will join us at an exciting time… Lincolnshire County Council is part of Greater Lincolnshire Combined County Authority which has new powers and unprecedented funding to deliver ground- breaking investment to residents and communities in Lincolnshire.  

Working alongside the Council’s Corporate Commercial Team, you will help to procure contracts for goods, services and works in relation to significant projects. 

Your advice and assistance will be instrumental to the Council in obtaining value for money for the residents of Lincolnshire.  Contracts spanning public health, adults support, waste disposal, ICT, children’s commissioning and transport are all in scope. 

You will also be involved in an array of other commercial matters for the County Council and LSL’s clients including grant funding and subsidies, corporate advice in respect of Council owned companies, legal support on Council governance issues and training more junior colleagues in the team. 


What we're looking for:

You will be a qualified Solicitor, Barrister or Legal Executive with at least 3 years post qualification experience of contracts and procurement law. 

It is also essential that you have a good broad general working knowledge of the law applicable to local government although previous experience of working within local government is not essential.

You will also need to demonstrate good literacy and IT skills, the ability to communicate effectively and be skilled in drafting complex legal advice, letters and reports clearly and in plain English.

A strong team player is required who will be able to apply their knowledge innovatively and proactively.

The position will be based in Lincoln, but the Council has adopted a Smarter Working approach which means that the role will be largely remote and office attendance for a minimum of 1 day a week subject to business needs.
