About the role
This is a critical role within the Greater Lincolnshire Combined County Authority. You will be instrumental in improving our reach and impact, making sure our messages resonate and are understood, and aligning communications with our corporate plan and strategies.

What you’ll be doing

  • Manage the Communications Team to develop and deliver a robust communications service for GLCCA, with a sharp focus on performance and impact.

  • Build effective relationships with the Mayor, GLCCA members, key officers, the media and news influencers to maximise positive coverage and minimise negative coverage.

  • Deliver exceptional internal communications so members, officers and staff feel well informed and listened to.

  • Deliver exceptional stakeholder communications to maintain key relationships and keep partners well informed on GLCCA activity.

  • Prepare communications plans and proactive and reactive key messages on GLCCA priorities and reputational issues, working with the corporate leadership team.

  • Oversee annual proactive communications plans for each work programme and service area, promoting the authority’s work in line with corporate aims.

  • Develop performance metrics that evidence reach and impact, and recommend innovative ways to improve performance.

  • Work with stakeholders and partner communications teams to ensure a joined-up approach, share best practice and find delivery efficiencies.

  • Support demand management across digital channels for enquiries about GLCCA activity.

  • Work closely with the Director of Resources and senior leadership, including attendance at key meetings; work flexibly to meet organisational needs, which may include evenings and weekends.

About you
You bring proven experience in communications, digital and engagement within a complex political and stakeholder environment. You have diplomacy, tact and political judgement, excellent written, verbal and presentation skills, strong IT skills, and the ability to take accurate briefs, advise clients, prioritise under tight deadlines and maintain high attention to detail. You work effectively in a team and on your own initiative, and you are aware of the political system in local government, best-practice communications and emerging channels. Understanding of copyright and communications law in local government, clear service standards, and a broad awareness of council systems and policies are expected. A professional qualification (e.g. NCTJ or CIPR) is desirable.

The role will be based on-site in Lincoln with a regular requirement to travel.
